Memorial Day –or- Why Babies don’t eat Jello

We had a big celebration for Memorial Day this year.  Last year, we celebrated Luke’s long weekend with extended hours in the NICU.

The weather cooperated very nicely; it’s either been nasty hot or raining lately, but Monday was delightfully warm and sunny.

My mom called me before we headed down and told me that she made something “special” for Piper for dinner, and to bring her Bumbo.

Hmph.  That doesn’t bode so well- the Bumbo is the only completely washable and waterproof baby sitting device we own.

Dangerous.  Very dangerous.

The surprise?

Jello Jigglers.

This should be interesting.

The dining experience:

…and the even more hilarious clean-up:

The funniest part was that she kept getting frustrated because she couldn’t hold on to the Jello.  So she’d hold the next handful even tighter, which of course just made it even less likely to stay in her hands.  She ingested just a couple bites, I’m sure- have you ever tried to hold slimy-with-spit jello cubes?

I won’t admit that the backs of Piper’s legs (and her hands) are still stained red.

I also won’t admit that I can’t wait to let her try again.  But maybe this time we’ll try something less…  vibrantly colored.

  1. LOL....love the pics with the jello!! Looks like she had tons of fun.....although I can see how she would get frustrated.......must have been so cute:) I'll have to try that with Landon.....I'll keep in mind toning down the color of jello! Thanks for the tip:)

  2. Ha ha! She is too incredibly cute! I'm bummed we didn't get to hang out with you and Piper before we left Colorado. Hopefully our paths will get another chance to cross somewhere down the line.

  4. I love it...it looks like she is a fan of J-E-L-L-O...if only it would stay still for just a second!

  5. Love the red diaper... and love that she's so tiny that she eats right on top of the table.

  6. Three cheers for buns in the sun! Noodie in the grass...not much tactile defensiveness in that chicky.
