Small Fry, Big Fry

While we lived in San Diego for a few years while I finished college and Luke completed his enlistment in the Marine Corps, we got seriously addicted to In-n-Out burgers.  Oh, they were heaven.  And cheap, which was a definite selling point when we were poor college kids living off an enlisted salary.  And you could go there even when you were brain dead from finals, papers, study groups, etc, because they only had options for cheeseburgers or hamburgers, fries, and milkshakes.  Easy peasy.

So, when we moved back here, we were heartbroken.  I have literally been tempted on more than one occasion to buy plane tickets back out just to have a burger (did you know that you can currently fly from Denver to San Diego for less than $120 round trip???).  We’ve tried a few burger places around (Culver’s isn’t so bad, and had the added benefit of having a large selection of ice cream products for desert), but nothing really measured up to In-n-Out.

Until.

Oh, Smashburger, how do we love thee?  Yum.  Yum.  YUM.

So last night, because we have no full meal in our house due to copious amounts of party planning, Piper and I met Luke there on his way home from work.  Since Luke hadn’t seen Piper all day, they got to sit next to each other and talk.  Piper loved it.  Even if Daddy didn’t share his burger with her (although he did let her taste his pickles <<insert crying/cringing face here>>).

I looked up and saw how cute they were together.  Piper was eating her veggie straws, and Luke his French fries.  I could almost hear her saying “Look, Dad- we’re eating the same thing together!”  And no, this wasn’t posed.
